Summer 2024 +CLUB Program
Grow With Google and Newark SYEP Programs
A Summer Program hosted at West Side High School as a part of the Google Grow and Newark's Summer Youth Employment Programs. This edutainment curriculum focuses on providing practical advice in Financial Literacy and Life Skills, covering essential topics in Personal Finance, Personal Development, and Personal Advantage.
The program featured engaging sessions that offered students valuable insights into life skills and personal development. Eric Pennington, Business Administrator for the City of Newark, shared his unique and inspiring life journey, followed by an interactive Q&A with students. In another session, curated insights from actor Denzel Washington's commencement addresses were highlighted and discussed. Both these sessions explored a range of topics including uncertainty, belonging, hopes and dreams, decision making, goal setting, and setting priorities. These discussions provided students with a wealth of knowledge and inspiration to guide their personal and professional growth.
Complementing the life skills component, the program also emphasized financial literacy. Professor John Longo led a session focused on core money management issues. Students learned about living within their means, effective saving strategies, and were introduced to the basics of evaluating companies as informed investors. This financial education aims to equip students with the tools they need to make sound financial decisions in their future.
